Foster an Animal - Change Lives!

Fostering an animal means taking in and caring for a pet on a temporary basis, while the pet is waiting to be adopted. This includes daily care (feeding, socializing, exercising) and plenty of love! Fosters also attend adoption events. There are several different foster situations and types of fosters, with placements ranging from a few days to several months.

Fostering to Fit

Fosters can choose to foster cats or dogs, or let us know if you’re open to both. You can also focus your fostering efforts on specific breeds, or on puppies or mature animals. Our foster placements also take into consideration the timeframe you have in mind, whether you’d prefer short-term placements or longer-term. We’ll also help you take into account the pets you may already have and the particular needs and preferences of your family.

We appreciate the choices our fosters make and the unique needs of each home and family. Our goal is “matchmaking” foster animal placements to fit your life so fostering is a wonderful experience – for you and for the pets – and so that our fosters are open to helping more animals over time

Types of Fosters Needed

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue focuses on several different types of fosters, including

  • “Regular” or permanent fosters to care for pets on a shorter or longer-term basis, in preparation for them to find their forever homes
  • Temporary fosters to cover during holidays, vacations, and emergencies until permanent fosters can be found or return.
  • Single pet home fosters for animals that do better as a single companion rather than in a home around other animals.
  • Special needs fosters for animals that need continuous and/or special medical care or may be blind, deaf, or older and need more attention.
  • Experienced baby-bottle fosters for puppies and kittens that are abandoned or whose mothers can’t nurse and need bottle care.
  • Pregnancy fosters for pregnant moms, delivery, and subsequent care of moms and puppies

Your Help Matters!

When you get involved with fostering, you’re helping to save animals from overcrowded shelters and other life-threatening situations where hard decisions must often be made. And fostering is not just about meeting basic needs and giving animals a place to stay. A loving foster placement truly helps the pet: it reduces stress and improves their health and behavior, which in turn makes the pet more appealing to potential adopters. Do good in the world for you, the dog or cat, and their future family by fostering today.

Your Help Matters!

How does fostering work?

The process starts when you apply and are accepted as a foster. Please note: there are separate applications to foster dogs and cats. Then, a volunteer will contact you to review your application.

Once you are accepted, you will be offered opportunities to foster animals that fit with your situation.

What costs are involved?

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue covers all vet care and flea and heartworm preventatives for our foster animals. We provide supplies to get you started.

What if I need to travel?

We understand that foster parents may have vacation or work travel that overlap with foster placements. Angels Pet Rescue has a team to assist when needed, so you won’t have to worry about your foster pet’s care. To learn more, contact us.

Can I adopt a pet that I foster?

The goal of fostering is to provide a temporary loving home, with the goal of adopting out foster dogs or cats–and then help another animal in need. However, fosters are allowed to adopt their foster pets. If you foster, fall in love, and want to adopt, please let us know right away so other adoption applicants are not disappointed. If you are looking for a pet and truly wish to adopt, please fill out an adoption form instead of a foster form.

You have two weeks after adoption to be sure the dog or cat is a good fit for your home, and during that time period, you can request a full refund for fees.
